Smart Home Speakers: The IKEA and Sonos Collaboration
Your furniture is about to get vocal! The industry leading home sound system brand Sonos, has partnered up with IKEA to make hideaway smart speakers. The wifi-enabled, audio controlled home system is capable of communicating with other devices, using the classic Sonos technology, it has been compressed down into pieces of furniture such as the ‘Lamp-speaker’ and ‘speaker-shelves’.
The business leader of IKEA home smart, Björn Block states “Our goal is for our collective work to save space, get rid of cords, make clutter invisible, and bring sound and music into the home in a more beautiful way.” Following on from their smart lighting range, IKEA’S design motivations are to drastically improve people's lives within the home. The combination of powerful sound and light is all hidden in a speaker with the sound set up of a Sonos. By building partnerships with the likes of Sonos, IKEA aims to become a major power house for smart home technology.
The creation of both the ‘speaker-lamp’ and speaker-shelves’ allows minimal interior design disruption, discreetly mounted onto bookshelves or within your bedside table light. Proving a wide array of features such as radio, music, audiobooks and TV options, enjoy streaming with full voice control through Apple Airplay 2 or the Sonos downloadable app.
The latest speakers are only available from IKEA stores beginning of August (2019), both in black and white, with of course, abled Sonos stereo pairing. Keep an eye out for them!
